Introduction to the Roger Ebert Website
The website at rogerebert.com is a very famous place on the internet for people who love movies. Roger Ebert was a real man who wrote about films for a very long time. He worked as a writer for a big newspaper in Chicago. He won a special prize for his writing. He was the first person who wrote about movies to win that big prize. He died a few years ago, but his friends and family kept his website open. Today, the website is one of the best places to read opinions about new and old films. People visit the site every day to see if a new movie is good or bad. The site is easy to use and has a lot of helpful pages for movie fans. You can find short opinions, long essays, and interviews with famous actors and directors. The website tries to keep the spirit of Roger Ebert alive by sharing his love for cinema with everyone in the world.
Reading Movie Reviews
The main part of the website is the review section. Here, you can find a review for almost every movie that comes out in theaters or on streaming services. The current writers look at a film and tell the reader what happens, but they try not to tell too much so they do not ruin the story. They talk about the actors, the director, the music, and the look of the film. After they talk about the good and bad parts, they give the movie a score. The score uses stars. A very bad movie gets zero stars. A movie that is okay gets two stars. A movie that is very good gets three stars. A masterpiece gets four stars. Roger Ebert loved the four star system, and his team still uses it today. You can search for any movie title to see what the writers thought about it. If you are not sure what to watch on movie night, you can look at this section to find something good. The writers do not just look at big Hollywood movies. They also write about small independent films, documentaries from other countries, and old black and white classics. This means there is always something interesting to read, no matter what kind of movies you like to watch.
Famous Star Ratings and Lists
Another great part of the website is the list section. People love lists because they are fun to read and talk about. The website has many lists of the best movies of all time. You can find lists of scary movies, funny movies, and sad movies. One special list is Roger Ebert's Great Movies collection. Roger wrote about one hundred of the most important movies ever made. He wanted to explain why these specific films changed the art of cinema. The current writers still add to this list sometimes. When you read these entries, you learn a lot about history and how films are made. Another popular list is the yearly best-of list. At the end of every year, the writers on the site pick their favorite films of that year. It is fun to look at these lists and see if you agree with their choices. Sometimes they pick a small movie that nobody saw in theaters, and that helps the movie get more fans. You can also find lists of movies to watch with your family or movies to watch on a rainy day. These lists make the website very useful for people who want to discover new things.
Essays and Special Features
The website is not just for quick star ratings. It is also a home for deep writing about film culture. Many different writers contribute to the site, including women, men, and writers from many different backgrounds. They write essays about how movies show different kinds of people. They talk about how society changes over time and how films show those changes. Sometimes they write about a single actor and look at all the movies that actor made. Other times they write about a director and explain that director's special style. There are also interviews with people who make movies. You can read what a writer, a director, or a star has to say about their own work. These interviews help you understand how much hard work goes into making a film. The site also has a special section for film festivals. Writers go to big events around the world and write reports every single day. They tell the readers which new films are getting people excited. This helps fans know which upcoming movies to look forward to in the future.
Remembering Roger Ebert
A big part of the website is about the man himself, Roger Ebert. The site has a special tribute area where you can read about his life and his career. Roger loved movies from the time he was a little boy. He wrote about them for school newspapers and then for big newspapers. He also became very famous for doing a television show with another writer named Gene Siskel. On that show, they would talk about movies and sometimes disagree. They made a famous hand gesture with their thumbs up or thumbs down to show if they liked a film. That gesture became known all over the world. Even though Roger is gone, his old reviews are still on the website. You can look up a movie from the year nineteen seventy or the year nineteen ninety and read what Roger thought about it on the day it came out. His wife, Chaz Ebert, helps run the website now. She writes letters to the readers and makes sure the site stays true to Roger's kind and fair way of looking at art. Roger always believed that movies are machines that generate empathy, and the website works hard to keep sharing that important message with every person who visits.
